What Color is Greige in Paint?
The color greige is a combination of gray and beige.
Greige can look really different from one shade to the next thanks to its extensive color palette.
Because greige is the result of two colors blended together (beige and gray), some greige paint colors are more gray and some are more beige.
Even the darkest shades of greige aren’t so dark that they are unwelcoming and the lightest shades of greige are warm enough to feel welcoming. It’s a fantastic neutral option no matter the color combo between gray and beige!
What is the Most Popular Greige Paint?
If you have been looking for the perfect greige paint color I’m sure you have come across Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams in the search.
It’s definitely the most popular among greige paint colors.. And for a good reason! It is one of my favorites among many others that I will dive into deeper later in my review.
When I was researching while preparing for this blog post, I noticed that the same greige paint colors kept getting thrown around as the most popular greige paint colors.
In fact, Sherwin Williams has a paint color called Perfect Greige but ironically, I wouldn’t recommend that paint color and you’ll notice it’s not on the list of my favorite recommendations.
As much as I wanted to create a whole new list that was totally different from the rest of the Internet, the following colors I included are too good not to include.
There’s no use reinventing the wheel when these are the most tried and true paint colors that work best. These paint colors were most used among my clients as well as the greiges I’ve used myself in my own home.

Sherwin Williams Greige Paint Colors
Just so you’re not totally lost when reading the paint reviews, LRV defines a paint color’s light reflectance value on a scale of 0-100 with 0 being pure black and 100 being pure white.
Basically, it’s a measurement of how much light a color reflects…You can find all the info you need to know about LRV later in this post where I go in more detail.
Mindful Gray SW 7016
This is a light-medium neutral paint with a lot of depth. Because of the depth, it’s not as popular for people looking to repaint a dark room.
When used in a room with a lot of natural light, it washes out less than some other greiges tend to so if you’re repainting a bright room this color may be for you.
Green, taupe, and light blue are the undertones in this paint color. The green undertones are more apparent in darker rooms or in areas with dark accents.
You can easily make this color pop by pairing it with white accents and trim!
Agreeable Gray SW 7029
If you’ve done your research I’m sure you’re aware that Agreeable Gray is pretty favored among the greiges.
This greige paint is rated number one on the list of best selling and most popular paint colors by Sherwin Williams.
This classy and sophisticated greige is a great whole house neutral paint color.
If you’re not a fan of warmer greiges or aren’t ready to add that amount of depth to your space yet, Agreeable Gray is a flexible greige that will fall right in that sweet spot between gray and beige.
Repose Gray SW 7015
This is the second best selling paint color next to Agreeable Gray.
It is referred to as almost a “perfect greige” by many people.
Repose Gray is a warm greige with brown undertones. Even though it is considered a warm color it falls slightly cooler than some greiges due to its blue undertones.
You’ll notice that it leans more toward gray than beige… Hence the name Repose Gray!
Accessible Beige SW 7036
We used accessible beige for our master bedroom walls and love it! It looks great when the natural light reflects off of it and equally as great with no sun shining in. You can read my Accessible Beige review HERE.
The gray tones are prominent in this paint color and the yellow and slight green undertones may appear under certain conditions.
Overall this is a flexible greige that works well with many coordinating colors and can be used anywhere in the home!
Collonade Gray SW 7641
This is a mix between Agreeable Gray and Repose Gray. AG is a touch lighter than RG so Collonade Gray is the perfect mixture of the two.
The combination makes for a great color option that doesn’t look too cool or too warm.

Benjamin Moore Greige Paint Colors
Edgecomb Gray HC-173
Edgecomb Gray is a warm/greige
It has an LRV of 63.88 which is actually pretty dark compared to most greige paint colors.
Although it is a warm color, it doesn’t feel yellow even with some additional slight green undertones.
You will notice that this paint color appears pretty gray in natural lighting and more beige under artificial light.
Classic Gray OC-23
This is a soft and subtle option for a greige that can replace white if you’re going for a white or light paint but want less sharpness or brightness.
The beauty of choosing a gray/greige paint color like this rather than pure white is that whites reflect all surrounding colors and this Classic Gray will neutralize surrounding colors!
This is a shade of greige that will pair well with both warm and cool paint colors thanks to its neutral undertones.
Balboa Mist OC-27
Soft violet tones make up the undertones in this paint color.
This is a warmer and more pigmented option in comparison to pure white. That being said, it is pretty light but the undertones allow some comfort to be added to the area.
This shade of greige pairs well with warm wood, granite countertops and earthy accents!
Pashmina AF-100
Slightly deeper and warmer than other greiges, this paint color gives a natural and organic vibe.
I haven’t mentioned much to be afraid of so far when it comes to greige paint colors because they’re all so versatile and what I would consider “safe colors” BUT this is a shade that won’t suit every space.
The LRV of this paint color is 43.62… Much closer to 0 on that scale than most greiges.
Don’t let the deeper tone of Pashmina steer you away from using it in your space. It can absolutely look gorgeous with the right surrounding materials!
Revere Pewter HC 172
Revere Pewter is sometimes called a muddy color thanks to the brown tone that is present.
This greige paint is a mid-tone greige. It’s dark enough that it won’t seem washed out in bright lighting conditions but not so dark that it will seem uninviting.
Much like Pashmina, Revere Pewter is an earthy tone but not as dark of an option, falling higher on the LRV scale.
What Colors Go With Greige Paint?
Greige is bold enough to make a statement but isn’t a color that will draw the eye away from all surrounding accents and colors. It’s a nice neutral that acts as a beautiful base for any accent color you decide to go with.
I said any accent color you decide because greige goes with SO MANY colors. Of course there are some ground rules when painting a room greige. But compared to other paint colors, greige is totally a safe and easy way to incorporate other colors seamlessly.
I would suggest pairing greige with strong shades like burnt orange, deep olive, navy blue, and even a mustard yellow. If you’re looking to stay neutral you should consider warmer brown shades or lighter shades of gray, white and black.
Is Greige Going Out of Style?
You don’t have to worry about greige going out of style! It is a timeless option that allows you to remodel and update your space while watching how perfectly it compliments so many different design choices. Just like any solid paint color, gray will likely go out of style for a period of time and so will beige. The beauty of greige paint is that it will never go out of style due to its versatility.
We are seeing homeowners gravitate towards warmer paint colors that are more beige than gray. This probably has something to do with gray being more out of style in 2023 and beige being more in style for the current time. Regardless, warmer greige paint colors can add comfort and dimension to any space.
Another way that I would like to emphasize the versatility of greige is to ask you to think about some current popular design trends… modern, traditional, farmhouse, boho… all of these interior choices would look great with greige painted walls. Some paint colors are great for specifically one trend but greige is all-around a solid paint color.
Swatch Paint Samples

They are 8×10 peel and stick sheets of paint samples that you can stick right on your wall. You can move them around to different walls to see how the paint color looks in different light.
Samplize is super convenient and the paint samples arrive on your doorstep overnight!
The paint color that you choose will be influenced by a couple different variables which is important to keep in mind during your design process.
1. Lighting Conditions/Reflectivity
How much or how little natural lighting you have in the area you are painting will directly affect how the paint colors show up in your space.
A good rule of thumb to remember is high levels of natural light will cause the color to appear lighter whereas rooms with artificial light will cause the color to appear more shadowed and dark.
You can control this on your end when deciding on a greige to go with and being sure you know which greiges are recommended for what type of lighting conditions.
The LRV of a paint color is a measurement of how much light a color bounces around. This is on a scale of 0-100 (0 = pure black 100 = pure white). Most of the paint colors listed in this review fall in the 50-60 LRV range unless I mentioned otherwise. Knowing the LRV of a paint color can definitely help you make some decisions!
This blog post goes into a lot of detail about LRV click here if you’re interested!
2. Pairing with Accent Colors
Surrounding accent colors can be used to your advantage!
You will notice that what colors you choose to pair with greige can cause certain tones to appear that you may not have known were there.
Greige is a safe color option that pairs well with a wide variety of other colors but if you’re hoping for a specific vibe or appearance in your space it’s worth doing the extra research on what colors go best with each greige paint color that you’re considering.
Lighting and surrounding materials are two primary influencers for any and all paint colors! You really are making a great decision by considering greige as the paint color in your next project.
Greige is sure to be a safe, versatile, and solid neutral paint color choice!
