Our Bedroom Makeover Before and After
Our bedroom makeover is complete! Six weeks ago we embarked on the One Room Challenge, where we have six weeks to finish decorating a room. I always love this because the challenge is a great way to finish a project you might be putting off. Nothing like a deadline to light a fire under you to get it done!
As a recap, we purchased and moved into this home just over a month ago.
I was anxious to start projects and make it our own so it felt like home. The room I wanted to start with first is our large master bedroom. Obviously we spend a lot of time here and I wanted it to feel airy and comfortable, like a place we could unwind and relax.
It doesn’t have to take a ton of money to decorate your bedroom. I’ll show you how a few simple ideas and a few new pieces can transform a room into something amazing.
WEEK 1 – LARGE MASTER BEDROOM IDEAS & INSPIRATION
WEEK 2 – GONE ON VACATION
WEEK 3 – BEDROOM DESIGN PLAN: HOW TO DESIGN A ROOM FROM START TO FINISH
WEEK 4 – BEDROOM LAYOUT: HOW TO ARRANGE FURNITURE
WEEK 5: HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT RUG FOR UNDER A BED
Here’s what our bedroom looks like after! I’m in LOVE with it turned out I couldn’t be happier! It’s pretty much exactly how I envisioned which feels great I hit the nail on the head. Even Jordon said he really likes our room, so I’m going to chalk it up as a win 😉
Let’s break it all down, shall we.
Going back to my master bedroom inspiration, I was going for neutral, light, airy, modern, with a slight traditional twist.
The first thing we did was paint the walls Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams. Paint alone does wonders, and the warm beige color gave the room a cozy feel. Our last home I painted every room stark white, so I was excited to try some other warmer paint colors in our new home.
We also painted all the dark wood trim Pure White by Sherwin Williams. The baseboards were only 3 inches tall and usually I like a taller board, so we replaced the baseboards with 5 1/2” boards for a more modern look.
Furniture
For furniture, we kept our same bed frame and headboard and used a bench we already had along with an accent chair. We needed a larger dresser to fit the wall it sat against and we needed new nightstands.
We have hickory wood floors on the rest of our main floor and we will eventually put wood floors in our bedroom as well, so for wood I wanted to incorporate a darker, more rustic wood finish to contrast the warm hickory in our home. The dresser I found was exactly what I was looking for.
For nightstands, I wanted something affordable and white. The gold handle accent on these add a touch of shine.
Because our room is quite large, we had room to add an accent chair. I actually really like having the chair to throw things on if I’m in a rush getting ready for work. The bench at the foot of the bed is another great spot to set things and it’s nice to be able to sit down and put my shoes on in the morning. I threw our fur rug on top for some added texture.
Lighting
Lighting is so important to a room’s design but it’s sometimes overlooked. An old outdated ceiling fan can make the rest of the room feel old and out-dated too. Jordon likes to have a fan on when he sleeps in the summer, so instead of replacing the fan with a chandelier I decided to stick with a fan, but I didn’t want to sacrifice style. Good thing there are several great options for nice ceiling fan lights.
When I was looking for ceiling fans, the Casablanca Daphne fan caught my eye. It’s such a pretty piece!! The black wood blades and brass accent around the light look sharp. Plus, it has a wall control which is nice instead of having to reach the cord that hangs down from the fan and it’s really quiet. I highly recommend it!
I needed lamps for our nightstands but wanted an affordable option. I ended up finding these lamps at TJMaxx for about $40 each which is a steal! TJMaxx has amazing home finds for great prices. The dark blue adds just enough color.
Gallery Wall
We have one long wall in our bedroom that needed a large piece to fill the space. A gallery wall was the perfect solution! I got the Ribba square frames from IKEA for under $15 each. To find art or something else to fill that large wall would have cost hundreds, so the gallery wall was really affordable. Unfortunately, the photos I had printed didn’t arrive in time, so I’ll have to retake pictures once they are here.
Textiles
I love adding layers and texture with pillows and throws. Our duvet we already had and I still love. The throw at the end of our bed is something I got years ago and the warm colors are perfect for fall. In this house I’m intentionally adding more warmer colors and less blue.
The beautiful throw on our chair is another favorite. It has the same warm color that I’m loving. It’s from Turkish-T and it’s perfect for our room. They have authentic Turkish towels that come in lots of different colors and styles. I use them in our kitchen and bathrooms!
Last week I talked about my rug dilemma, but ultimately I decided to go with the light colored rug. It has enough pattern and color that Bria our dog can roll around on and it will be fine, even if she tracks in a little dirt.
That’s our bedroom makeover complete before and after! I hope you enjoyed seeing how our room transformed over the last several weeks. It feels good to be done! Now on to the next project 🙂
There are SO MANY amazing transformations so I encourage you to check out the other participants and see their room reveals. Prepare to be inspired!
